How to trigger ads?
You need to set up the ad-stitching method you will use to trigger ads in the Shoutcast Radio Manager under the "Monetize" section.
More info about ad-stitching methods here.
1- Ad-Replacement:
(Replace an element of your stream by an ad-break of the duration of your choice)
Fix Duration Break:
- Set up the duration of your ad-breaks in the Radio Manager (up to 3 minutes)
- Schedule MP3 files with the tag "Advert:" in the artist and title section, choose files of the duration you've set up.
- The metadata to activate the ads is "Advert:" in both Artist AND Title fields.
- The advertising server is case sensitive, so make sure to use Capital “A“ and the colon.
- The audio MP3 file will be heard by listeners that don’t have ads running.
- You should put audio in the file (or files) that you would want people to hear if they’re not hearing the Shoutcast triggered ad at that time.
- You can trigger as many ad-breaks you want.
Note that you can use the silent tone to trigger the ads (an inaudible 20 milliseconds file) you download in the Shoutcast Radio Manager and insert in your scheduling. This will still require you to place an audio file of ad-break duration right after the tone to avoid a fall back in the middle of a track.
Also Advert: can be replaced by Advert! when the colon is not supported.
Flexible Duration Break:
- Set up Flexbreak in Radio Manager
- Schedule MP3 files with the tag structure "Advert-XXX:" or "Advert-XXX!" (XXX = duration in seconds) in the artist and title section, choose files of the duration you've indicated into the tag. For instance you'd like to place a 2 min ad-break at 2pm: insert tag Advert-120: in metadata of a 2min audio file. If you want to fire a longer break at 6pm (3min), insert tag Advert-180! in metadata of a 3min audio file.
- The tag needs to be activated in both Artist AND Title fields of your files.
- You can trigger as many ad-breaks you want of any duration.
Note that the tone is not supported for this method.
2-Ad-Injection:
(We insert ads directly on your stream by pausing it and deliver only ads available for each listener)
- Set up Ad-Stitching in Radio Manager
- Choose maximum duration of your ad-breaks (we will deliver only available ads for each listener and won't exceed the duration you've set up)
- Download and insert the tone in your programming
Note that you can also use the Metadata triggering method by adding Advert: in both artist and song title of an audio file to fire an ad-break but we recommend the tone for more convenience.

3- Using Shoutcast's planner (Auto DJ solution):
When you're broadcasting using Shoutcast's planner, you can trigger two ad-breaks of 2 minutes every hour using ad-replacement. You can manage settings into the planner directly.
- Fill the filler box with 2 minutes audio files to trigger ad-breaks.
Twice an hour, the Radio Manager will automatically insert two minutes of advertising space into your program.
Please refer to the planner manual for more information (p.39, 2.16 Filler Boxes)
- Set the broadcast time of ad-breaks:
In order for advertising breaks inserted by SHOUTcast at a rate of two minutes twice an hour to be better embedded in your program, you can set the schedule for each screen by clicking on the "Ads" button.
Please refer to the planner manual for more information (p.55, 4.2.3 Setting the broadcast time of ad breaks)
